This entry will continue of part1″Who is Yojiro Arai? Do you know “Taifu-no-Noruda” Part1“.
Did not want cut corners in the description of nature
Q: “Taifu-no-Noruda” has a variegated motif such as breaking with best friend, encountering a mysterious girl and school of the night to describe before a cultural festival. Which part of outlook on this world was construced first?
As for the kernel of the story, the illustration “Day when the whale flew over the sky” drawn in my newcormer periond is a base. Students at the school in the island are confined in the schoolhouse because of the typhoon so they have to spend night at there. If we will be able to project such a peculiar sense of image
onto film, I think it would be wonderful.
Q: The island and the school that becomes a stage are impressive. Is there a model somewhere?
it is original. but we tried to Enoshima with opposite direction in the scene where the entire island is shown by the down shot though. And we actually did location hunting and went to Enoshima and school. However, we didn’t to use place we found as stage, to put our image by reality we actually feel and saw if I had to say then. For instance, the schoolhouse in the courtyard that is images the junior high school to which I went.
Q: Is there a work that receives stimulation in producing?
I like ‘Ghost story of the school’ (1995) and always think to draw kind of young adult fiction. As for the overflow of the school with various things, the influence from the movie is large.
And from “Typhoon club” (1985), we refered to not only atmosphere but also all scene all cutting. As for the screen of “Typhoon club”, it has the coloring that green drove a little. Art director: Mika Nishimura is politely drawing such a picture making.
Talking about “rain” expression
Q: We felt that it concentrated on the wind and rain because the title was “Typhoon”.
It tends to be avoided to shake the tree by wind because drawing becomes a large amount. But I wanted to draw such a description of nature neatly in “Noruda”. And I thought expressing sound and the wind pleasant at first and I also wanted to express a sense of existence of rain strongly so rain like the cell animated cartoon was made in photography part.
Q: How about “Rain like cell animated cartoon”?
Rain was expressed in an old anime that it was a violent line that had been scratched by the cell was damaged directly. Anime in recently will tend to be a softer one so I requested to animator that “Please make rain more shaper”. I terribly likes the expression of the drop of water that adhered to the window of the school as well.
