It was a very peaceful premiere.
The Anthem of the Heart (Kokoro ga Sakebitagatterunda: Kokosake) will be in theaters on September 19th, and it premiered on August 29th in Chichibu where Anohana took place. Kokosake, which also takes place in Chichibu, is produced by famous creators, Tatsuyuki Nagai as the director, Mari Okada as the scriptwriter, and Masayoshi Tanaka as the character designer and the animation director.
Here is the outline of Kokosake.
Jun Naruse is a girl whose family was broken apart because of what she said when she was little. One day, the egg-fairy appeared and sealed her mouth inhibiting her from talking. It was a curse to keep Jun from hurting anybody else and if she tries to talk it hurts her stomach.
Since this traumatic experience, Jun has been living quietly to not have much of a presence. However, one day, she is assigned to be in charge of the “Country Communication Networking event,” and also selected as the lead of their musical…
This movie’s director, Tatsuyuki Nagai is famous for Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi ha Mada Shiranai (Anohana), so the movie has been highly expected to be a great youthful movie.
Before the premiere, Tatsuyuki Nagai, Mari Okada, and three main voice casts(Inori Minase, Kouki Uchiyama, and Sora Amamiya) appeared on the outdoor stage of Chichibu Muse Park for a talk-show.
Tatsuyuki Nagai, who had been finishing up the film right before the premiere, looked a little tired but talked about the film with his passion.
“It is an honor to stand on this stage where I was watching from the seat when we had the event of Anohana.”
Q: It’s been two years since Anohana, and the same crew got together again to make the original feature film setting in Chichibu. How do you feel now?
Nagai: It’s an honor. We had an event for Anohana on this stage before, and I was watching from the seat. This time, I’m glad to be on the stage to introduce this film.
Okada: As Director Nagai just said, we had the event here, and I can’t forget how Sakurai (Takahiro Sakurai) dressed up. (The audience laughed.) I’m happy to be back here and show you our new film.
Q: In the film, Yo Yoshida (a famous Japanese actress) acted Jun’s mother. How was her acting?
Nagai: She was wonderful. Honestly, I was a little bit worried in the beginning because she never had a dubbing experience, but she was so experienced in acting and applied her experience in dubbing.
Okada: I think she has deepened this film.
“I was a gloomy student when I was in my high school.”
Q: Kokosake is the youthful story of four high school students. How were you like in your high school?
Nagai: I was quiet. I usually stayed at the corner of the classroom and didn’t have much of a presence. I was an abstracted kid.
Okada: I was gloomy. (made the audience laugh) I was the model of Jintan.
Q: There were the scenes of the after-school activity. What did you usually do after school?
Nagai: I read manga a lot, but I didn’t watch anime much. I was just watching the rerun of Space Battleship Yamato though.
Okada: I was playing video games. The PC Engine version of Tokimeki Memorial had been released at that time. I played that game so much. I was pretty good at hitting on Shiori. (made the audience laugh.) That was my “Tokimeki” memory in my room.
Q: Is there any special scene you want the audience to enjoy?
Nagai: Of course, we put our best effort into every single scene, but especially the musical scene we made with our voice casts is brilliant. I want you to enjoy it.
Q: What does your heart want to scream out loud now? (The title of the film means “my heart wants to scream out loud.”)
Nagai: I want to sleep! I’ve been finishing up the film until a while ago. I want everyone to enjoy this film.
Okada: As one of anime creators, making the original feature film was my goal. I could have done it because of people who supported me. I made this film to thank all of them. Please enjoy and thank you so much!
It was a peaceful event in Chichibu. In the middle of the event, the secret guests appeared. They were the main casts from the live-action drama of Anohana, Nijiro Murakami as Jintan and Minami Hamabe as Menma. It was Hamabe’s birthday. Nagai handed her flowers, and everyone celebrated her with a clapping of hands.
